Michelle Bishop, Ph.D. is the Associate Director, Learning and Training at Wellcome Connecting Science and previously the Education Lead for Health Education England’s Genomics Education Programme, having worked in the field for 17 years. She is recognised internationally as an authority on genomics education with 12+ years of experience in influencing, shaping, and interpreting national policy for the education and training of NHS healthcare professionals. Her accomplishments include: authoring 40 genomics education resources and overseeing the development of 100 more; developing and implementing specialist genomics NHS training curricula and competency frameworks; teaching medical, dental, nursing, midwifery and healthcare science trainees in genomics; authoring 15 peer-reviewed papers and two book chapters on genomics education; and providing educational and clinical expertise to national projects as part of the NHS’s transformational adoption of genomic medicine. Dr. Bishop has established, maintained, and built a personal network of key working relationships with people from the National Health Service (NHS), Health Education England (HEE), Genomics England (GeL) and other groups that are involved in the development, publication or deployment of genomics educational materials in the UK. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the British Society for Genetic Medicine (BSGM), and Chair of the BSGM’s Communications and Media sub-group. She is a trained genetic counsellor and holds a PhD in the field of genetics education.
